Brockton High School Envirothon
Wildlands Trust coaches students at Brockton High School to gain the knowledge and skills throughout the school year to compete at the Massachusetts Envirothon
In collaboration with the Brockton High School science department and environmental educators at Manomet, Wildlands Trust coaches and sponsors the school’s Envirothon Team. The Massachusetts Envirothon, a prestigious statewide competition for Massachusetts high school students, tests team knowledge on challenging natural resource topics.
Brockton High School Envirothon Accolades:
In 2020, Brockton High School students submitted a video presentation in lieu of the competition.
2023: 5th place in Forestry
2022: The triumphant return of the in-person competition was held at the Quabbin Reservoir, and the BHS team was awarded the Community Research Award for their project on creating a zero-waste future.
2020-21: Due to COVID-19, the 2020 and 2021 Envirothon Competitions went virtual. Brockton High School students submitted video presentations in lieu of the competition.
2019: 5th place in Water
2018: 1st place in Current Issue “Partnering with Nature in Watersheds” and 2nd place in Forestry
2017: 3rd place in Current Issue “Agricultural Soil and Water Conservation” and 6th place overall
2016: 2nd place in Soils
2015: 5th place overall team
In 2019, Brockton High teacher and Envirothon coach Joyce Voorhis (now retired) received the Secretary's Award for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education for the second time in 3 years. Her students and Wildlands staff accepted this award with her on May 6, 2019 at the MA State House, where they met Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo on a behind the scenes tour with State Representatives Claire Cronin and Gerry Cassidy.
